The Marchtaler Plan

The Marchtaler plan is the education plan for the Catholic schools in the diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart/Germany.

THE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS:

1. Morgenkreis

Morgenkreis wants to give a rhythm to our school week.
On Monday morning in a “Marchtaler-Plan” school, you won´t find the sound of the school bell but Morgenkreis. Morgenkreis helps to fill the need for silence and peace. All people, children and teachers, sit in a circle to look in each other´s eyes.
In Morgenkreis you won´t find teaching subjects but the undirectedly (sinnfrei) deliberating and recognizing to help the child being free for itself and the others.
There are times to learn hearing, seeing, silence, feeling, body language, and much more.
The ways of Morgenkreis are ways inside, and they are maybe difficult, uncomfortable and unpleasant. But if you go these ways, you will finally find yourself.

2. Interlaced instruction (vernetzter Unterricht)

Interlaced instructions are projects between many subjects.

3. Freie Stillarbeit

Freie Stillarbeit is neither a new social form of instruction nor a method of knowledge transfer, it´s a different form of school. The Marchtaler Plan wants to wake up the ability of the inner seeing and hearing of children to help them do what they want to do.
The Marchtaler Plan trusts the child, and this trusting is the goal of working. Freie Stillarbeit helps you to find yourself. In Freie Stillarbeit there are the three principles of Catholic social teachings newly reanimated:

  • the principle of personality because each human is person and individual
  • the principle of subsidiarity: (Maria Montessori) help me to do it myself
  • the principle of solidarity: you shouldn´t change the child , but you should help him change if it wants.

4. Technical instruction (Fachunterricht)

Technical instructions are these subjects, which are not used in interlaced instruction.
